Hydration through H2O

My new 30 Day Challenge is to drink at least 1/2 gallon of water daily. I recently read that to determine how much water you need, you take your weight, divide by 2, and take that amount of H2O in ounces daily. I’ve also heard we should target 1 gallon of liquid daily.


One of my son’s has severe allergies and had severe acne. We put him on the prescription drugs to help alleviate his acne. It helped, but wasn’t great. He took himself off the meds, and started drinking a gallon of water daily. He noticed a great improvement within 3 days. The longer he drank a gallon of water each day, the more he noticed how his allergies didn’t bother him near as much.

Lately, I’ve had all kinds of things I’ve been working on, and have let several things go, such as keeping myself hydrated. Now it’s time to get back into the swing of things and get that water in me.

It’s been about 2 weeks since I’ve started my 30 day Challenge of drinking 1/2 gallon of water each day.  I’ve done alright except for 3 days.  Have I noticed a difference? No.  Plain and simple.  I still feel like a dried up prune.  I guess I have been so dehydrated that it will take quite awhile for me to get hydrated again.

Are you having a hard time drinking plain water?  I’ve been looking into a filtration system for my house.  But that’s another story.  In the meantime, here are a few suggestions to make water taste better.  Add lemon juice, citrus peels or slices, or anise seeds.  What I do in addition to those things, is to put my water in a glass pitcher and let it sit overnight.  The chemicals in the water dissipate into the fridge (be sure to keep your box of baking soda nearby), and the water tastes a whole lot better.  Have tried water from a Brita Pitcher before and like those.

30 Days are now up, and I have to say overall I have come a long ways. Nearly every day I can drink at least 64 oz. of fluids, mostly water. Have I noticed a difference in the last 2 weeks? You bet! I don’t need as much lipbalm or lotion. I’m starting to crave water. My skin does feel softer. My hair even seems more soft and shiny. (No…I haven’t changed shampoos and conditioners.) This will be an ongoing thing for me.

Let me know your experiences with drinking at least 1/2 gallon of liquid daily.
